Division 17 Recognized for Exemplary Student Involvement!
SAS was recently notified that Division 17 will be recognized by APAGS for exceptional student involvement. Division 17 will be receiving the APAGS DSRN (Division Student Representative Network) Outstanding Division Award.
The award recognizes Division 17 for inclusion of student voices on all committees and the voting seats that have been granted to the SAS Co-Chairs on the DIV 17 Executive Committee. The division will receieve a check for $1500 in recognition of this honor. The award will be presented at the APA Convention in Toronto on Saturday, Aiugust 8, 2009 from 10 to 10:50 AM in the APAGS Suite (Fairmont Royal York Hotel).

Student Involvement in Division 17
The Division 17 Executive Board approved a process for including students on all committees and special task groups. If you have an interest in getting involved click here for a description of the process. You will need to be a member of the SAS listserv to get notification about student opportunities. If you are not already a member; please send a message to the ListServ Manager.
GET INVOLVED WITH DIVISION 17 AND SAS! It's that time of year again when students can get involved in the Society of Counseling Psychology's (SCP) leadership by becoming a student member on an SCP Committee (term runs from August 2009- August 2011)! How exciting! So, I'm glad that you asked; "what do I need to do next?" That is a fantastic question!
First of all, consider your academic commitments for the two years (you must be a student during the 2009-2011 term) to see if you're able to take on some more active roles at a national level. After you have done this, make sure you speak with your training director, academic advisor, dissertation chair, or another professional within your academic community to get their input on this professional endeavor. You also must be an active SAS member which means you must have paid your dues. If you are not currently a SAS member but would like to become one so you can apply for one of the below positions please complete the SAS application by clicking here.
CHECK OUT THESE FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITIES:
- The Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP) Conference Committee is looking for two enthusiastic student members to fill two two-year commitments. Any counseling psychology/SAS student is eligible for these positions on this Committee. Students who are interested in conference planning activities, particularly related to the Division 17-sponsored APA events should consider applying.
- The Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP) Member Resources Committee is looking for one enthusiastic student member to fill a two-year commitment. Any counseling psychology/SAS student is eligible for this position on this Committee. Students who are interested in maximizing member resources for the entire Society of Counseling Psychology should consider this position.
- The Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP) Membership Committee is looking for one enthusiastic student member to fill a two-year commitment. Any counseling psychology/SAS student is eligible for this position on this Committee. The Membership Committee engages in projects designed to enhance recruitment, retention, and research related to Society/Division 17 membership.
- The Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP) Hospitality Suite Committee is looking for one enthusiastic student member to fill a two-year commitment. Any counseling psychology/SAS student is eligible for this position on this Committee. This committee works to organize the SCP Hospitality Suite for the APA Convention and is a great opportunity to meet with professionals who are using the suite- a great "get-your-foot-in-the-door" position!
- The Society of Counseling Psychology (SCP) SCP Awards Committee is looking for three enthusiastic student members to fill two-year commitments. Any counseling psychology/SAS student is eligible for these positions on this Committee. This committee works to select professionals who have been nominated for SCP awards to receive these awards.
Time commitment is relatively small- 2-3 hours for one month out of each year. If you are seeking more information that would be helpful for you in your consideration, please feel free to contact the committee chairs. This information can be found by clicking here and looking under "Committee Chairs and Coordinators". These positions offer a great opportunity for you as a student to receive mentoring from other professionals who are members of these committees!
