As a faculty member at UND, I am most deeply concerned that the State Board would take the action it did this morning [12/21/00]. While there are any number of reasons for my outrage, I will note just a few:

The Board made no attempt to consider the negative repercussions of this action on the institution, on faculty and staff members, and on the students. Its action will perpetuate a climate of deliberate indifference to the needs and concerns of minority students and faculty and a hostile environment for those individuals and all others who value human dignity above out-dated, ethnocentric tradition.
