Adelphi Fountain

Welcome to the Adelphi Literature Society Homepage!

Welcome to the Adelphi Web site! Adelphi is a literary organization here at the University of North Dakota. Being the oldest student organization on campus, there is a vast history surrounding the Adelphi Literary Club. The Adelphi fountain that has stood on the campus since the early 1900’s is now in dire need of attention. One of the goals of Adelphi is to raise money for the repair of the Adelphi fountain. It is our hope that this fountain will once again stand with the grace it once had. Another goal of Adelphi is to promote the reading and writing of literature among English majors.
Among our activities for the year are a Halloween party, where we will take part in such activities as pumpkin carving and discussing literature with dark overtones (i.e. Poe’s works and Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein), and a grammar debate/discussion. We will select a new text to read for each month and discuss the text as a group. For example, this month’s selection is Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein. Since it is October, we are reading this text and discussing it at the Halloween party. We also have a guest speaker come in each week to talk to us about life after college in the field of English.
We are a guild of English majors coming together to better our understanding of the English language and literature. Through Adelphi, one may learn about many things associated with the field of English language and literature. From learning about authors and texts through discussion to learning about the admission process of graduate schools, Adelphi is a great way to expand your horizons as an English major.

“A good book is the precious lifeblood of a master spirit.”
—John Milton
