General Philosophy Discussion Board

Some words of preparation: The purpose of this board is to provide a bit more flexibility for philosophy students and visitors who want to explore the vast expanse of topics that philosophers have been investigating for over two millennia. I encourage any and all philosophical discussion here. I separated this board from the classroom boards because I wanted to make sure that students who were being graded -- and who are, understandably,  my first priority -- could find the specific information they needed for their assignments. I wanted each classroom board to represent the specific community of inquiry each class works so hard to create, and because of that, it is impossible to permit guests to join in the discussion.   Nevertheless, I hope that my students use this board as well, and that this location, along with the soapbox, becomes a place for friends and strangers to engage in inquiry together.

This is philosophy, disagreement is constant. Please remember to be respectful. Always keep in mind that even though this is a computer message board, it is still a public forum. I ask that you act with the same professionalism as you would in any classroom discussion. When in doubt, err on the safe side. Remember, not only can I read your posts, but my boss can too. We don't want this getting ugly.

I will be checking the discussion regularly. Sometimes I will post, sometimes I won't. Use the other members of this discussion as your primary resource.

(Note: this is NOT the board for class-related posts. Go to the student page for access to class-specific boards.)
