PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES
Professional Service
I am the chair of the North
Dakota Professional Certification Board that certifies park, leisure
and recreation personnel. I also chair
the Conference Site Selection Committee for the North
Dakota Recreation and Park Association and was on the conference
planning committee for the 2008 state conference.
Community Service
Following the 1997 Red
River flood, I was involved in flood recovery activities in the
community. I was a member of the Corps of Engineers' planning task
force for the Greenway, and a member of the Greenway Alliance, a
group involved in planning the development of the 2,200 acre
greenway. I also served on the Citizen Advisory Committee for the Rec River State Recreation Area
being developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. A
related project that I have been involved in is the Red Lake River Corridor Project,
a cooperative regional effort at improving recreational access to the Red Lake River in northwest Minnesota. I was also an active member
of the Community Advisory Response Team (CART) in East Grand Forks,
that provided planning input into community redevelopment and served on
the steering committee for the Grand
Forks Youth "Marshall Plan".
I am a member of the Red River Resource
Conservation & Development Council, a USDA sponsored organization that
provides leadership, technical assistance, and financial assistance to create
new opportunities in agriculture, employment, conservation, and development in
a 4 county area in rural northeast North Dakota. The RC&D is active in regional rural
tourism development and manages the Red River Basin Riparian Project,
a federal EPA funded project that improves water quality along the Red River and its tributaries.
I am an officer of the East Grand Forks
Soccer Club which started a high school soccer program in East
Grand Forks, for both boys and girls. In 2002 the school
district took over the high school soccer program, and the soccer club
continues to sponsor recreational soccer for youth. I was also a
participant in the Blandin Foundation's Community Leadership Development
Program with a cohort of other citizens from East Grand Forks and attended Blandin's Academy for Advancing Community with individuals
from throughout rural Minnesota.
