2. View of the top 800', South Rim of the Grand Canyon The major cliff forming formations are the Kaibab Limestone and the Coconino Sandstone. Softer shales and shaley limestones of the Toroweap Fm. and Hermit Sh. erode to produce scree covered slopes. The red sandstones and shales below the Hermit Shale belong to the Supai Group.
