 1. View of Permian formations on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon

The major cliff forming formations are the Kaibab Limestone (gray) and the Coconino Sandstone (salmon colored). These two prominent formation can also be seen on the North Rim of the Canyon in the background of the picture. Softer shales and shaley limestones of the Toroweap Fm. and Hermit Sh. erode to produce scree covered slopes.
