CONFERENCE WEB SITE: http://www.und.nodak.edu/dept/math/mgc2002 PARTICIPATION The organizers of the Twelfth Midwest Geometry Conference encourage participation by graduate students, junior mathematicians, postdoctoral researchers, women, members of underrepresented groups, experienced geometers, as well as scientists and mathematicians from fields outside of geometry. Interested undergraduate students may also attend the talks. Please share this announcement with anyone who may benefit from attending the conference. TRAVEL The National Science Foundation has officially awarded a grant in support of this conference. Please feel free to proceed with travel arrangements. Northwest Airlines and its feeder airline, Mesaba Airlines, provide several daily direct flights between Grand Forks and Minneapolis-St. Paul. Bus and rail service to Grand Forks are also available. See the conference Web site for additional travel options and information. SHUTTLE SERVICE The conference will provide free shuttle bus service between the Ramada Inn and the conference location in the Memorial Union. See the "Lodging" section, below, for information on which hotels are near the Ramada Inn. Detailed information on the shuttle will be available on the conference Web site at a later date. FINANCIAL SUPPORT The conference budget includes full reimbursement for the travel, lodging, and per diem expenses of the eleven invited speakers as well as limited support for the other conference participants. Participants who have other sources of support, especially NSF support, are encouraged to use this other support as much as possible. Your cooperation in this matter will be helpful to those who lack other support, and it will help to assure funding for the Midwest Geometry Conference in the future. We (the organizers) will give highest funding priority to graduate students and new (1997 or later) Ph.D.'s. We hope to be able to fully fund all graduate students and new Ph.D.'s who request support, but we will not know the exact level of funding for each individual until after the conference. REGISTRATION Please complete a registration form and send it to mgc2002@und.nodak.edu. A blank form is available at the end of this message. You may also download a form from the conference Web site. Please send in a completed form, even if you have already sent a more informal message with some or all of the information requested on the form. Although there is no registration deadline, please register by April 5 if possible. If you would like to stay at the Holiday Inn (which is described under "Lodging," below), then registration by March 29 may help to assure hotel space for you. Registration after April 5 may compromise our ability to obtain hotel reservations for you. There is no conference registration fee. LODGING: The Grand Forks area has many hotels. If you plan to stay at one of the following two hotels, we ask you to make reservations through us by indicating your preference on your registration form. Where double or triple rooms are desired, please indicate on your registration form what kind of arrangements you want us to make; for example, agreed-upon rooming arrangements with other participants; family members accompanying; or roommates assigned by us. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Holiday Inn, 1210 North 43rd Street, Grand Forks Rate: $55.00 plus 10% tax. We have reserved 25 rooms. The 10% tax will be waived if you charge your room to the conference. This means that if you help out by using your own sources of funding, then you will be taxed. We apologize for this, but there is not much we can do to change the situation. Additional lodging options follow. If you plan to use one of them, then please make your own reservations.
