Mathematica Notebooks for Math 208
Spring 2005, L. Peterson

Note: Find out when the Math Lab is open and not reserved for another class.

Mathematica is a computer program that we have in the Math Lab in the basement of Witmer Hall. Most computers in other labs on the campus probably do not have Mathematica. Links to various Mathematica “notebooks” follow. The Internet Explorer Web browser in the Math Lab is configured so that the Mathematica program will automatically start up when you click on one of the links. If you use a different Web browser, you may have to download the notebook, start up Mathematica by clicking on its icon, and then open the notebook. I apologize for this situation. When you click on the link with Internet Explorer, the computer may ask you if you really want to open the file. Click on “open.”

Before you go to the Math Lab, check its hours of operation. Also, individual instructors may reserve the Math Lab for their classes. You may not be able to use the Lab if an instructor has reserved it in this way. Check the schedule on the wall outside the Math Lab.

Notebook 1 contains some basic instructions on how to operate Mathematica. If you need or desire additional help, the Math Lab attendant may possibly be able to help you. You can also come to see me.

  1. Basic Introduction to Mathematica
  2. Logarithms
  3. Worst Case Scenario Efficiency
  4. Simple Arithmetic

To use the printers in the Math Lab, you have to provide your own paper. You may use notebook paper, including paper with lines on it. But do not use paper with rough edges. Be sure to turn on the printer before you try to use it. There should be a power on/off switch on the printer.
