Feel free to stop in to see me if you would like to have me estimate your current Math 409 grade for Fall Semester, 2005. If you would like to compute the estimate yourself, you can do so by using the following procedure. First, consider the following table:
| Point Source | Percentage | Maximum | A Cutoff | B Cutoff | C Cutoff | D Cutoff | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Exam I | 18% | 100 | 90 | 80 | 70 | 60 | ||||||
| Exam II | 18% | 100 | 90 | 80 | 70 | 60 | ||||||
| Exam III | 18% | 100 | 90 | 80 | 70 | 60 | ||||||
| Final exam | 22% | 122.22 | 110 | 97.778 | 85.556 | 73.333 | ||||||
| Homework | 24% | 133.33 | 120 | 106.667 | 93.333 | 80 | ||||||
| Total | 100% | 555.55 | 500 | 444.445 | 388.889 | 333.333 |
To estimate your final exam score, assume first that the final exam that I hand out is worth 100 points. Estimate your score on this exam, and multiply the result by 22/18, i.e. by 11/9 (or by 1.2222).
To estimate your homework score, add up the number of points you have earned so far, and divide the result by the total possible number of homework points so far. Multiply the result by 100, and then multiply that result by 24/18, i.e. by 4/3.
Assume that each of the three midterm exams is worth 100 points, and do not modify your actual or estimated scores on these exams.
To estimate your course grade, add your actual and estimated scores in the five categories, and compare the result against the cutoffs in the last line of the table. If you are confused, if you have questions, or if you just want to discuss the course, feel free to call me or to stop in to see me.
