University emergencies: It is possible that
University classes may be temporarily suspended because of a campus
emergency such as a severe outbreak of the swine flu. Another
possibility is that the semester may end early. In the event that
something like this happens, the course requirements, deadlines, and
grading percentages on the official syllabus for this course are
subject to change. I will notify you of such changes by e-mail using
your e-mail address as it appears on Campus Connection. It is
important that you do well on the midterm exams and on the quizzes.
If the semester ends early, there will probably not be a final exam.
In this case, you will not have a chance to raise your grade by doing
well on the final.
-
Absences from exams: If you will be absent
from a midterm exam, please call or e-mail me in advance or as soon
after the exam as possible. You do not need a note from a
physician if you miss an exam for this course.
-
Other absences: If you miss class at other
times, you may wish to call or e-mail me. This is optional, but it is
more important if you will be missing several days of class.
-
Missed quizzes: I will drop your lowest two
quiz scores. If the swine flu epidemic becomes severe, I may
decide to drop your lowest three quiz scores. I generally do
not allow students to make up missed quizzes.
-
Web site: I have my own Web site. If the
University temporarily suspends classes, you should visit this Web
site. I may use the Web site to announce plans for the remainder of
the semester. In any case, all of our homework assignments always
appear on my Web site. If necessary, I may post full or
abbreviated copies of my lecture notes on the Web site. They would
most likely be in the form of PDF files. Many Web browsers on the
campus have PDF file viewers. The URL for my Web site is
http://www.und.nodak.edu/instruct/lapeters
You may also
reach this Web site from the Mathematics Department Web site. The
departmental Web page has a link to a "Department Directory." A link
to my Web site appears in this directory in the "Faculty" section.
