Chapter 9 Assignments, Grade Allocation, and Due Dates

Chapter 9 assignments count for 20% of your final grade. All items except for the improvisation are to be recorded on computer disk and handed in together with your track listing by the dates listed below. You should also be prepared to play any of these assignments "live" for your instructor.

Assignment 1

Technique:     F major and F minor harmonic scales, two octaves ascending and descending
See p. 233, p. 366, and p. 368 for fingering.

 

Improvisation :      Using "fill in" tones, rhythmic variation, and/or "bent" rhythms (as described on p. 250), create a melodic ornamentation of the MINUET, p. 251. Note: For an A, you must appropriately ornament the right hand melody over a correctly played left hand part (as written). For a C, you must play well the right hand alone with the appropriate ornamentation.

Harmonization:     p. 243 #2a AND p. 244 #2b OR #2c

Assignment 3

Harmonization:     p. 246 #4. Choose ONE style (a, b, or c).

 

Technique:     Choose up to 5 exercises* from those listed on pp. 233-234.

20 points
Due September 20th

Assignment 4

Repertoire:     LUSTIGE GESELLSCHAFT, p. 237 or EVENING MELODY, pp. 238-239
  Transposition:     Transpose WIEDERSEHEN, p. 236 to C minor
 

Harmonization:     p. 244
