| General Comments: | This march was written to commemorate the largest gathering of tall sailing ships ever assembled on July 4, 1976. The piece begins with piccolos and flutes playing a little melody . This is coupled with horncalls from the french horns and cornets. After this short introduction there is a very lively melody played by the cornets, and baritone. This melody will require a good cornet section for it uses many sixteenth notes. The middle section of the piece has a lyrical melody in the clarinets and a clever countermelody played by a muted cornet. The march ends as it begins, with the nautical sound of the piccolo. |
