General Comments: Given the feel of a Barn Dance this suite is an excellent piece of music. The piece is a challenge for any band and once learned the music takes on a life of its own. The range is in the upper register of many of the sections. The Cake Walk is a light upbeat movement with syncopation and rhythms that will challenge the players. The Schottische can be done in either two or a fast four, this is a laid back section that has as almost cartoonish sound. The Western One-step on the other hand is an upbeat active section that puts the brass against the woodwinds in many sections and allows the extremes of the sections to show through. The Wallflower Waltz is a beautiful dance while the Rag is almost a jazz piece with all of its syncopation and laid back style.
