| General Comments: | Freedom Gate Overture by John Kinyon is a good piece for a beginning band. Block scoring and doubling make this piece sound full. The piece begins with an introduction that has brass and woodwinds alternating the melody every other measure. The melody is mainly half and quarter notes with an occasional pair of eighths. There is a section in the middle that changes from 4/4/ to 3/4. The piece ends with the same alternating theme as the beginning. |
