| General Comments: | Discovered in 1951, this piece was originally scored brass (military) band. Three major sections structure the concerto: Allegro Vivace, Andante cantabile, and Allegro. The trombone starts thematic sequencing right away in the second measure while triplet ositnatos are played by the clarinets. The second movment contrasts the first in meter (6/8) and tempo. The third movement is vivacious and is a test of endurance for the soloist. The trumpets make a distinct appearance during the Finale. | |
