| General Comments: | This arrangement of an American classic is first rate. Though the tune is familiar, the rest is hardly predictable. Very difficult septuplet (7) figures in the beginning for the clarinets and saxes will be a problem. The melody is first played slowly by the woodwinds in the lower register. The key of concert G flat allows for a nice rich sound in the clarinets. The piece ends with a fanfare in the trumpets and a long 14 note fall in the woodwinds. (There is an optional harp part in the score but it can easily be left out). |
