| General Comments: | The melodic material of this piece comes from 3 African folk songs; "Oteng teng", "Mwana Wange," and "Zira! Zira!." The first tune is a dance song from Kenya. This part has a lively melody first played a solo trumpet then by the woodwinds. The second part is a slow lullaby from Buganda. This has a beautiful slow melody that is played by the low woodwinds. The tone color of the low woodwinds is very effective for a lullaby. The third song is an Ethiopian war song. This section is dominated by steady beating of drums and accented eighth notes. |
