Andrei P. Kirilenko

I am an Associate Professor with the Department of Earth System Science and Policy at the University of North Dakota. My major scientific interests are in developing the methodology for quantitative assessment and prediction of regional and global changes by development and application of ecological models and computer simulation. I have a specific interest in simulation modeling of ecological systems, assessments of climate change impacts, GIS and model integration, coupling the physical and biological models, and Internet-based environmental models. I also participate in the IPCC activity in documenting and reporting the latest achievements in climate change research, having been invited to represent Russia as a leading author of the chapter on climate change impact on forestry, agriculture, fisheries, and ranges of the IPCC Climate Change Fourth Assessment Report.
Throughout my scientific career, I have been working on the problem of providing quantitative forecasts of environmental change, especially in relation to human impacts. These changes are complex, interconnected, and are largely impacted by today’s decisions. I strongly believe that development of the integrated computer models, based on our latest knowledge about the impacts and processes, and able to explore different scenarios of the future, is the only way to provide a scientific foundation for these decisions.
