Old Main

Old Main, the University's first building, was located near the Old Main Memorial Sphere between present day Merrifield and Twamley Halls. It provided classrooms, offices, the chapel, library, museum, laboratories, and living quarters for the janitor and the president. It was described as "one lonely building in a wheat field, with the campus consisting of 20 acres of freshly plowed earth, black and muddy, with no sidewalks or fences to separate it from surrounding farms, and no tree or shrub in sight."
