John Casey

  • Former hockey player at UND
  • Played goalie for the North Stars in the 1990-91 Stanley Cup series

Mark Chorney

  • Captain for the 1980 UND National Championship hockey team
  • Played for the Pittsburgh Penguins on their Stanley Cup run
  • Also played for the Los Angeles Kings

Dr. Thomas Clifford

  • Student 1938-42; Faculty 1945-71; President 1971-92
  • In 1945 he served as a teaching assistant, instructor, associate professor, professor, department chair, counselor of men, dean, vice president, president and during 1990-91 as interim chancellor of the North Dakota University system.
  • During his 21 years as president of UND, enrollment grew by nearly 4,000 students and annual operating budget had increased by more than 700 percent and research grants by 800 percent.

John Lee Coulter

  • Died on heroic rescue mission in Siberia

Ralph Engelstad

  • Former goalie for UND
  • Donated over $100 million dollars to UND for our new hockey arena, Engelstad Arena

Robert Eaglestaff

  • Former UND basketball player, elected into the UND hall of fame in 2004

Joseph Flanagan

  • Named UND's greatest athlete in over the first 50 years

Lynn Frazier

  • Former Governor of North Dakota
  • Later became United States Senator

Howard Huston

  • Class of 1918
  • League of Nations official

Phil Jackson

  • Former UND basketball player
  • Led UND to the national tournament two years in a row
  • Played professional basketball for the New York Knicks

Beatrice Johnstone

  • Beatrice was one of the University's earliest graduates, receiving her degree in 1891.
  • In 1914 she became the first rural school nurse in the nation.

Dave Osborne

  • Former UND football player
  • Played in the NFL

Dave St. Peter

  • President of the Minnesota Twins

Earl Pomeroy

  • North Dakota's only member in the House of Representatives
  • Serves on both the Ways and Means Committee and the Agricultural Committee (only Congressman to do so)

Carleton Elliot Simensen

  • While at UND, Simensen played basketball and was a member of the Scabbard and Blade, Blue Key, and Iron Mask fraternities
  • Served as a Minneapolis recruiter for the Marines
  • He was killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor , December 7, 1941 . Carleton Elliott "Sim" Simensen was the first UND graduate to be killed in action during World War II

Era Bell Thompson

  • Star athlete for UND
  • The first woman to be elected to the UND Athletic Hall of Fame
  • Became editor of Ebony magazine

Patricia A. Warcup  

  • She initiated and coached the first modern era UND women's basketball team from 1965-1970 and did the same with the softball team from 1967-1970
  • She was instrumental in the formation of women's athletic teams and played a role in the forming of the Minnkota Conference, one of the first conferences for women in the nation
