Heritage and Legacy
UND is the oldest and largest University in North Dakota. With more than 100,000 alumni there are strong academic and school spirit traditions. UND is the place where many global leaders got their start, including President/CEO of Pepsi Bottling Ventures Keith Reimer, and NASA Astronaut Karen Nyberg.
For many, attending UND is a family tradition. For others, UND has been the first step toward something brand new. Whether you are a first generation or fourth generation student studying here, being a part of the UND family is a special experience. Many of our traditions have evolved over the years, from a winter carnival in the 1950s, to an all-campus service day for Grand Forks in 2010. Regardless, the same sense of spirit and pride resonates - that we are one, we are North Dakota.
North Dakota's University
UND is home to highly regarded medical, law and aviation schools, and provides a world-class education in a low-key, friendly atmosphere. Just like our state, the University strives to lead the way on issues like energy engineering, entrepreneurship, and the creative arts. UND is a national leader and we are proud to educate so many North Dakotans on top of thousands of students from around the world.
Active Student Body
From our highly-active student government, to our award-winning Studio One television program, and all the other 240+ student organizations, there's always something to do at UND. Roughly 8 percent of students participate in Greek life, about 80 percent use the Wellness Center, and intramural sports like basketball, volleyball and hockey help students have fun and relax after classes.
Division I Sports
One thing you'll notice about UND is our Division I athletic programs and our great fans. UND boasts 7 men's ice hockey national championships, one football national championship, and a 3-peat national championship for women's basketball. Individual national titles have also been won in swimming, diving and track & field. More than 2,300 people are members of the Fighting Sioux Club as scholarship supporters for various sports, and it is common for students to rally around the arenas hours before game time to show their school spirit.
