A two sport standout at the University of North Dakota, Maria Bruggeman is in her second
year at the helm of the Fighting Sioux volleyball program. Prior to taking over as head
coach, Bruggeman served as a graduate assistant with the 1998 NCAA Division II National
Championship Fighting Sioux women's basketball team.
Bruggeman played for the Fighting Sioux basketball team from 1989-92. She was also a member
of the UND volleyball team during the 1991, 1992 and 1993 seasons. Bruggeman earned
honorable mention all-region and all-conference honors in 1992 on the volleyball court and
ranks among the UND all-time leaders in hitting percentage, kills, solo blocks, block assists
and total blocks. She also ranks among UND basketball's all-time leaders in field goal
percentage.
Following her graduation from UND in 1993 with degrees in elementary education and physical
education, Bruggeman served as the head volleyball coach and freshman girls basketball coach
at Dubuque Senior (Iowa) High School and taught junior high physical education. Bruggeman
is married to former UND track All-American Jared Bruggeman. Bruggeman is currently working
on her masters degree in kinesiology at UND.
Seona Furlong is in her first season as a full time assistant coach at UND after spending
the 1997 and 1998 seasons as a graduate assistant coach. Furlong came to UND from Southwest
Texas State University where she served as the second assistant coach for the 1996-97 season.
A native of Dryden, Ont., Furlong played her collegiate volleyball at Missouri Western State
College from 1991-95. Furlong graduated in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in physical
education and a minor in coaching. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in
kinesiology at UND.
Lori Wang Assistant Coach
Lori Wang is in her first season as a graduate assistant coach with the Fighting Sioux. Wang
was a three-sport athlete, playing volleyball, basketball and softball, at UND-Lake Region
from 1989-91. From there, Wang attended Valley City State University where she also
participated in all three sports. Wang graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary
education and physical education with a minor in coaching in 1995.
From 1995-99, Wang taught elementary physical education at Nolanville Elementary in the
Killeen, Texas, school district.
Jared Bruggeman Assistant Coach
Jared Bruggeman is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Fighting
Sioux volleyball team. Bruggeman, an All-American track athlete at UND from 1989-93, is
working on his master's degree in secondary education while also assisting with the UND
volleyball and track and field teams. Bruggeman also teaches physics at Grand Forks
Red River High School.
