Undergraduate Cooperative Education Policy

Below is a list of the necessary steps involved in starting a cooperative education placement and what is involved during the co-op.  There are specific requirements for students to qualify for this program.  You must have at least Junior or Senior status, have a minimum G.P.A.. of 2.0 and have completed Psyc 303: Research Methods in Psychology with at least a C.  Students should address questions to the department Cooperative Education Coordinator, Dr. Karyn Plumm karyn.plumm@und.edu

  1. Attend a Co-Op workshop, which includes information about the steps to take and how to write a resume at Career Services/Cooperative Education Office. The schedule is available on-line at http://www.career.und.edu.
  1. Meet with Department Co-Op coordinator, Dr. Karyn Plumm and bring with you the departmental recommendation form, which was part of the orientation packet at the Co-op Workshop.  In order to qualify for Co-op you must have completed Psy 303 with at least a C, must be of Junior or Senior Status and have a minimum G.P.A.. of 2.0.  Dr. Plumm will check your qualifications and fill out the departmental recommendation form, and mail it back to the Cooperative Education Office
  1. Open a Co-op/Career Services file, which includes a resume, transcript, the Departmental Recommendation Form and the Student Agreement and Release Form.
  1. Meet with the Co-Op Coordinator to discuss resume and employment options and search for jobs.
  1. When a Co-Op site of interest is identified, notify Dr. Plumm to approve the site.
  1. When site is approved, send out your resume and wait for employer to make a decision.
  1. If you are hired, you will need to notify Dr. Plumm to determine the number of credits involved, obtain a call number to register for co-op academic credit, to outline responsibilities and assignments for the semester and how the co-op will be worked into the your degree plan.
  1. Complete the Employment Data Form, Agreement for Cooperative Education and Cooperative Education Job-related Objectives forms.  The Agreement for Cooperative Education and the Cooperative Education Job-related Objectives must also be signed by Work supervisor and then submitted to the co-op office.
  1. You must also notify Financial Aid, Business Office, Housing Office andRegistrar's Office.
  1. You will then need to attend a homework briefing at co-op office.
  1. Start working.  You may have regular meetings with Dr. Plumm. If you have any problems or concerns you are expected to notify Dr. Plumm.
  1. Complete a Mid-Term Progress report online by the Co-Op office deadline. Give your work supervisor a Mid-Term evaluation form, which can be printed off of the web site, who will return it to the Co-op office with a copy sent to Dr. Plumm.
  1. At the end of the work term, complete a Cooperative Education Student Objectives Final Report and obtain signatures from Work supervisor and Dr. Plumm and also complete the Student Evaluation/Exit Interview Form by the deadline.  The Co-op Office will send an Employers Final Evaluation Form to work supervisor who then returns it to the Co-op Office, and is then sent to Dr. Plumm.
  1. Dr. Plumm will assign your final course grade based on the dates of completion of objective assignments/activities, completion of departmental assignments, adhering to timelines and employer evaluation and reports.
