Elementary Education Undergraduate Program
ADMISSIONs
Regardless of the college in which their degree is being earned, students intending to become teachers must apply for formal admission to the Department of Teaching and Learning Elementary Education program. Students apply for admission after completion of 30 semesters hours, normally while enrolled in an entry-level course.
Enrollment is limited in Elementary Education and formal admission to Teaching and Learning is required for TEAM and selected required Elementary Education classes. You apply after completion of 30 semester hours, usually while you are taking T&L 330 (Intro. to Teaching and Learning). If you are not in T&L 330 and are ready to apply for Admission, you should pick up the application materials outside the Advising Office (Room 105).
Admission decisions are based on your having a minimum GPA of 2.75 and attaining minimum cut-off scores on the PPST exam administered periodically throughout the year. Cut-off scores are available in the Advising Office (Room 105).
The deadline for submitting your admission application is customarily the first Friday in October and in February each year but these dates are subject to change. Applications are screened by committees and notification of admission is usually made in 25 working days.

TRANSFER STUDENTS
Some of your previous courses may apply to UND's Essential Studiesrequirements. Here's how to read your UND transcript to see what has been accepted:
- If a course at another institution has been accepted by UND to count toward the 125 hours needed for graduation, it will appear on the transcript in the form of the course's three numbers (such as Anthro. 101) and without an asterisk.
- If the course has been accepted as fulfilling an Essential Studies Requirement, a fourth number will appear which shows the area the course fulfills. l signifies English Composition, -2 the Social Sciences, -3 Arts and Humanities, and -4 Math Science and Technology. For example, Anthro. 101 from another institution would read "Anthro. 1012", the "2" signifying it is accepted for credit in the Social Sciences area.
- If the fourth space is a hyphen (-), it means that the course is counted toward your final 125 hours but has not been accepted as Essential Studies; for example, if your transcript read "Anthro. 101-" it would mean that UND has not accepted that course for a GER. An asterisk within parentheses (*) after a course name means that the hours will not even be counted toward graduation.

PRE-ADMISSION COURSES
Note: The following courses may be taken without being formally admitted into Teaching and Learning.
- T&L 330 (Introduction to Teaching and Learning), 3 credits -
This is the basic introductory course to the Elementary Education major and should be taken no later than your sophomore year. T&L 330 or a similar course from another institution is a prerequisite for TEAM and Advanced Classes.
If you are a transfer student with a similar introductory course already on your transcript, contact the T&L 330 instructor, who will decide whether that course can be a substitute for T&L 330.
- T&L 315 (Education of the Exceptional Student), 3 credits -
This course is taught by faculty in Special Education and serves as an orientation course on exceptional children from the classroom teacher's perspective. It is a required course on your program of study and a prerequisite to TEAM.
