Undergraduate program
A bachelor's degree with a major in sociology provides a liberal arts backround with exposure to sociological perspective that lead to an improved understanding of our social world and our relationship to the macro and micro social enviornments in which we live. The undergraduate major provides students with opportunities to study the methods and perspectives of the discipline as well as to sample a number of the substantive specialties of the field such as deviance, medical sociology, or formal organizations. Undergraduate majors should expect to become critical consumers of information, well informed about the diversity of American society and the world and well versed in the dominant social issues of the times.
The requirements for a degree in Sociology are listed below. There is a great deal of flexibility to accommodate individual interests, with a core of classes providing the essential theory and methods backround.
Courses
In addition to fulfilling the General Education Requirements (GER) required by UND to graduate, students wishing to obtain a B.A. and major in Sociology through the College of Arts and Sciences are required to complete an additional 33 semester credit hours, which include:

Courses offered through Sociology:
Students must also complete a concentration in a single supplementary field other than sociology. This can be completed through: (1) a language proficiency of level IV in a modern foreign language; or (2) 20 credit hours (at least nine of which must be numbered 300 or above) in any single subject matter taught at the University of North Dakota.
