The Fall 2001 University Council meeting was convened at 4:05 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2001 in the Memorial Union Ballroom. President Charles Kupchella presided.
President Kupchella welcomed all Council members and began by expressing his belief that the University must strive to operate as normally as possible in the wake of the attack on New York and the Pentagon this week. The University of North Dakota must respond to this national tragedy by joining together as a community, offering support to one another, and being flexible in accommodating the special needs of individual members of the community.
President Kupchella began his State of the University address by saying that this has been the best opening of a school year he has seen, and provided the Council with data to support this. He continued with a review of the highlights of the past year.
President Kupchella reported on the University's Strategic Plan, which will position UND as one of America's leading doctoral research institutions.
The President asked for any further business, there being none, the meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Krogh, Council Secretary
