Minutes of the University Curriculum Committee

February 12, 2004

 

1. A meeting of the University Curriculum Committee was held on Thursday, February 12, in Twamley Hall, Room 305. Judy Bruce presided.

 

2. Those present were J. Lloyd Blackwell,III., Connie Borboa, Judy Bruce, Mary Cutler, Mary Drewes, Jim Haskins, Nancy Krogh, Evelyn Labun, Chuck Moretti, Patrick O'Neill and Ralph Woehle.

 

3. Minutes for January 22, 2004.  Jim Haskins moved to approve the minutes from January 22. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

4. Jim Haskins, J. Lloyd Blackwell, III., and Patrick O'Neill presented the Master of Science in Applied Economics new academic program request, Econ 504, 505, 514, and 597 course change requests and Econ 524, 534, 580, 997 and 998 new course requests. Jim Haskins moved to approve all of the requests with the following stipulations: submit paperwork for deletion of Econ 514 and add a new number and course in its place; submit clarifying statement on how students will transition from undergraduate to graduate; and submit a shorter course title for Econ 580. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

5. Mary Cutler presented B.S. in Chemistry change in program requirements request and Chem 221, 221L, 222, and 222L new course requests and moved approval of all. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

6. Mary Cutler presented B.A. in English change in program requirements request and moved approval. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

7. Judy Bruce presented Geog 322 course change request. Jim Haskins moved approval of the request. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

8. Evelyn Labun presented Comm 452 new course request and moved approval with the stipulation that course title be shortened. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously. 

 

9. Chuck Moretti presented Geol/GeoE 427 course change request and moved approval. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

10. Ralph Woehle presented Anth 200 new course request, Anth 172, 330, 370, 376 and 494 course change requests. Jim Haskins moved to table the requests. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

11. Judy Bruce presented B.S. with major in Chemistry change in program requirements request and BMB 401 and 403 new course requests and moved approval of all. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

 

12. Curriculum forms. Ralph Woehle updated the Committee on the status of the curriculum forms.  The forms were reviewed by the Curriculum Ad Hoc Committee, will be customized by staff at the Graduate School and will be brought back to the University Curriculum Committee for final approval.

 

13. Meeting adjourned at 4:30.
