Minutes of the University Curriculum Committee

September 11, 2003

1. A meeting of the University Curriculum Committee was held on Thursday, September 11, Edna Twamley Room, Twamley Hall. Judy Bruce presided.

2. Those present were Victoria Beard, Connie Borboa, Judy Bruce, Mary Cutler, Bruce Dearden, Mary Drewes, Jim Haskins, Nancy Krogh, Chuck Moretti, Ralph Woehle, and Tom Zeidlik.

3. Chair elections. Judy Bruce was appointed Chairperson. Chuck Moretti was appointed Co-Chair.

4. Ad hoc Senate Committee to review curriculum procedures designee - Ralph Woehle.

5. Budget, Reallocation and Restructuring Committee designee - Chuck Moretti.

6. The Committee discussed changing the meeting time to 2:00 p.m.

7. Jim Haskins moved to remove Minor in Mathematics new program request and Math 416 course change request from the table. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

Ralph Woehle and Bruce Dearden presented the Minor in Mathematics new program request and Math 416 course change request. Ralph Woehle moved to approve both of the requests. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

8. Jim Haskins moved to remove Geog 452 course change request, Geog 378 new course request and Geography-Community and Urban Development Emphasis change in program requirements request from the table. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

Tom Zeidlik presented Geog 378 new course request. Jim Haskins moved to table Geog 378 pending clarification from Paul Todhunter or an invitation to attend the next meeting. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

Tom Zeidlik presented Geog 452 course change request. Ralph Woehle moved to approve the request. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

Tom Zeidlik presented Geography Department-Community and Urban Development Emphasis change in program requirements request. Jim Haskins moved to table the request pending the receipt of additional information including catalog copy, rationale and consideration of the special topics courses. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

9. Chuck Moretti presented MS in Geological Engineering new academic program request and GeoE 998 new course request. Jim Haskins moved to approve the requests. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

10. Jim Haskins presented ChE 301, 331, 332, 333, 412, 421 course change requests and BS in Chemical Engineering change in program requirements request and moved to table all of the requests pending clarification by the department.

11. Judy Bruce presented MS in Chemistry change in program requirements request. Jim Haskins moved to table the request pending further review. Nancy Krogh will meet with the Graduate School to discuss this request. The motion was seconded, voted upon and carried unanimously.

12. The meeting adjourned at 4:45.
