Alan King, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Supervisor
Dr. Alan King is a tenured Full
Professor who serves as the Psychology
Department's Clinical Training Director. He
earned his B.A. degree in General Psychology
from Nicholls State University in 1977. He
went on to earn a M.S. degree in Experimental
Psychology (University of Louisiana, 1979) and
a Ph.D. in clinical psychology (Louisiana
State University, 1984).
He began his teaching career as
an Assistant Professor at Southern University
at New Orleans in 1982. He joined the faculty
at the University of North Dakota in 1987. He
has served as Director of Clinical Training
for over ten years (1989-1992; 1999-present).
Dr. King has focused much of
his practice and research on the development
and maintenance of the personality disorders.
His theoretical orientation is biosocial
learning, and he has maintained a limited
private practice in Grand Forks for the past
20 years. He primarily teaches undergraduate
and graduate psychopathology courses in the
department.
