A
message to Norwegian students
In
the following pages you will find information
about The American College of Norway (ACN) in
Norway and continued study in the United States.
If you are interested in studying abroad, this
is an excellent opportunity both academically
and financially. Our program offers you a quality
university education in a dynamic setting while
giving you the opportunity to study and live in
America!
Our
program is supported by Statens lŒnekasse.
During
the time that you study with us in Norway, you
can apply for a loan in the same amount as other
students studying at schools in Norway.
If you travel over to a US university on your
own, LŒnekassen will not support your first
year of study. Our special agreement will enable
you to get funding while attending ACN. After
taking the courses at ACN, you will qualify
to be a second year student (sophomore) at UND.
This means that you can qualify for funding
for all four years of your studies.
Our special agreement with UND enables Norwegian
students to enjoy a substantial price reduction
in tuition while in America.
Our
program is set up to help you slide right into
the system in America.
Our staff is qualified to help you gather and
fill out the correct forms and paperwork that
are necessary for studying in the U.S. Studying
in a foreign country requires a great deal of
preparation and we can help. We inform students
about the various deadlines and costs involved
in an international education and try to make
the transition from Norway to America as easy
as possible.
By the time you are finished with a year at
ACN , you will have selected your courses for
your first semester at UND. In addition, you
will know which instructor, which building,
the room number and class time you have for
each course as well! You will have applied for
a study visa, loan from LŒnekassen and housing
in Grand Forks. You will have information about
flights and we can even arrange to have someone
meet you at the airport if you wish.
By studying at ACN with Americans from UND you
will already have formed friendships that will
help you when you arrive in the US and make
your years at UND more enjoyable.
Our program provides you with an American Liberal
Arts education.
The
American system of education is different from
the Norwegian system because they offer what is
called a liberal arts degree. This means that
in addition to your major field of study you are
required to take courses in a variety of subjects
encouraging you to become a "well rounded individual."
This type of education will provide you with a
broad background enabling you to contribute positively
to a global society.
While
attending The American College of Norway, all
students participate in the general courses that
we offer. When you go to the University of North
Dakota, you can begin specializing in one of the
over 130 areas of study at UND!
We
would be happy to help you by answering any questions.
So please do not hesitate to contact us.
