ALL ABOUT THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF NORWAY (ACN)

K rista Lauritzen is the Administrative Director of ACN. Krista is from Two Harbors, Minnesota and while attending Augsburg College in Minneapolis, participated in an exchange program in Norway at the University of Trondheim. She said it was a life experience that will never be forgotten and recommends study abroad to all students. While in Norway she met her husband Roger. They lived in the U.S. for a number of years and have been in Norway for the last nine years. They have two sons, Lars Kristian 16 and Kai Erik 10.

Her responsibilities include budgeting, fund raising, hiring of staff, the general wellbeing of the students and the everyday operation of the campus and it's buildings. She also is responsible for the recruiting of both American and Norwegian students to the program.

Krista would like students coming over to ACN to know that it is an excellent way to live in another country while studying in a non-threatening environment. The atmosphere is relaxed and students are given the opportunity for individual attention from their instructors. All classes at ACN are taught in English (with the exception of the Norwegian class) so American students should feel very comfortable. Since it is a smaller school, the students get to know each other on another level and are able to learn more about each other's culture. One of the nice aspects of this school is that all of the Norwegian students you meet will attend the University of North Dakota so the friendships you make can continue to grow. Krista thinks it is important for American students to experience another culture. Students can learn about the United States from a different perspective.

Within the next five years the school will begin offering a larger curriculum and is hoping to continue to develop the summer school program. If you have any questions for Krista email her at kristal@online.no

M arit ElvsŒs is the Academic Dean at ACN. She was born in Moss and also attended high school in Moss. She received a scholarship to study at Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia. She finished her undergraduate degree at Georgia State University and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing. She then returned to Norway and obtained a Masters Degree in International Business from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, located in Bergen. Marit moved back to the United States once again and worked in the Washington D.C. area. She worked for two years as a public school teacher and two years as a store manager for Staples. She then received a second Masters Degree in Business from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

Marit returned to Moss in the fall of 1999 to assume her current position of Academic Dean. She is currently in her second year at ACN. Her responsibilities include hiring of professors, coordinating the schedule, academic advising and teaching. Marit hopes that the college will experience moderate growth, with about twenty-five percent of the students being American. This would give the Norwegians more of an American feeling and also add to more variety and perspectives in the classroom. You can email Marit at: melvsaas@online.no

S iv L¿nningdal is the first smiling face you will see as you enter the administrative offices at ACN. She is from the western part of Norway and speaks a Norwegian dialect called "nynorsk". She is married and has three daughters: Hege and Line born in 1974 and Silje born in 1984. Siv has been with ACN since 1993 as Office and Accounting Manager. Her responsibilities include: accounting, generating monthly financial reports, budgeting, buying and selling books, stamps and other school items.

Siv is also the person who will be answering the phone at ACN and the person to go to for practical issues. If you have any queries you can reach Siv at: siv@americancollege.no
