The UND-American College of Norway Program

www.americancollege.no

The American College of Norway (ACN) is an extraordinary program of study, which takes place in Moss, Norway. This one-year of university level studies is part of a four- year university program, which leads to a Bachelor’s degree in the US. Students can build further on this degree and receive a Master’s Degree or a Ph.D. ACN’s cooperative partner is the University of North Dakota (UND) in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  With the credits gained from ACN, students can also choose to apply to the university of their choice in the US.

ACN is an important opportunity for the international students as well. American students come from all parts of the US, but primarily from the mid-west. ACN has a special apeal within the Norwegian - American community and students are often attracted because of their Norwegian heritage.

We have also had students from Iran, Germany, Cameroon, Ghana, Canada, Vietnam, Philippines and Bosnia. They leave Norway with a special fondness for the country, the people and the college.

Campus

On August 1st, 2002 ACN moved into the heart of Moss. The new campus is situated in the newly renovated mill area with close proximity to the public library, cafés and other schools such as IT Akademiet and Hareide Design. The location in "Møllebyen" will allow ACN to continue the tradition of high standards set by students and staff in the past, while expanding the number of students who will be invited to participate in the program.

Housing

ACN students can live in one of three buildings. There is close and easy access to the city bus or a 30 minute walk to downtown Moss where the school is located. Norwegians can choose from single or double rooms.

Knausen, the larger of the two buildings can house 24 students. The building has been a part of the ACN campus since 1995. Nearby, students can find Krisa, another dormitory building. Krisa currently houses 8 students. The third building is called Kaos. Each building has a kitchen for students to prepare their own food on weekends and holidays. All meals during the week are served in Knausen. The rooms contain a bed, desk and chair, lamp and a dresser or closet. You are responsible for bedding and towels. There are extra closets located in the hallway and plenty of storage for suitcases, etc.

Administration

Krista Lauritzen is the Administrative Director of ACN. Krista is from Two Harbors, Minnesota and while attending Augsburg College in Minneapolis, participated in an exchange program in Norway at the University of Trondheim. She said it was a life experience that will never be forgotten and recommends study abroad to all students. While in Norway she met her husband Roger. They lived in the U.S. for a number of years and have been in Norway for the last eleven years. They have two sons, Lars Kristian 19 and Kai Erik 13.

If you have any questions for Krista email her at krista@americancollege.no

Marte Saugestad is the Associate Director at the American College. Marte is a former ACN student and a 1997 graduate of the University of North Dakota. In subsequent years she studied in Australia and has worked in both Bali and Norway. She is a native of Moss, but currently lives in Oslo.

Siv Lønningdal is the Office and Accounting Manager and is likely the first person you will meet as you enter the administrative offices at ACN. She is from the western part of Norway and speaks "nynorsk". She is married and has three daughters: Hege and Line born in 1974 and Silje born in 1984. Siv has been with ACN since 1993.
