OID History and
Structure
The
Office of Instructional Development (OID)
was created in July, 1980 by a university-wide
task force of faculty and administrators.
Its mission: "to provide resources for
improved instruction and the professional
development of UND faculty members as teachers."
Originally funded by the
Bush Foundation, the office is now supported
by state-appropriated funds as well as generous
grants from the UND Alumni Foundation.
OID is headed by a Director
who reports to the Provost/Vice President
for Academic Affairs. The Director is advised
and assisted by the Faculty Instructional
Development Committee, a University Senate
committee charged with overseeing instructional
development programs.
In 1999, OID merged with
the University Writing Program, home of Writing
Across the Curriculum and the University Writing
Center. Although the two programs maintain
separate offices, they publish a combined
faculty newsletter, co-sponsor a regular box
lunch discussion series, and share administrative
and secretarial support.
