Admission/Prerequisite Requirements
Admission to the Master of Science degree program in the nurse anesthesia specialization requires the following of all students:
- A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from NLN or CCNE accredited program.
- A statistics course (graduate or undergraduate level).
- Undergraduate course in College Algebra (UND math placement testing may be used to waive this requirement).
- A minimum GPA of al least 3.00 for the last two years of baccalaureate study.
- Current RN license and resume (submit copy with application form).
- A minimum of one year full-time experience (two or more years preferred) as a registered nurse in a critical care setting. Desired settings would include medical, surgical, cardiovascular, neurologic, or trauma intensive care units and primarily care for the adult population.
- An upper division Biochemistry course (UND Biochem 301 or its equivalent). This course is in addition to chemistry courses taken as part of generic BSN program. Acceptable biochemistry courses include North Dakota State University Biochemistry 260, University of New England (online – preferred distance learning option at http://distance.une.edu ).
- Successful interview by the Admissions Committee.
Students may enroll in graduate course work prior to formal admission to the graduate program. Subject to the approval of the Department and the Dean of the Graduate School, a maximum of nine (9) semester credits taken as a graduate Non-Degree student may subsequently be counted toward a graduate degree subject to all other regulations.
Selection Process
Enrollment is limited to 12 students each year with classes beginning in late August. The selection process begins with the fully completed application materials forwarded to the Admissions Committee. The Admissions Committee reviews the application materials and selects the candidates to be interviewed. After the Candidates are interviewed, the Admissions Committee makes the final and alternate selections.
