Our Mission:

The St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center is dedicated to the Catholic spiritual, intellectual, apostolic and communal formation of the University of North Dakota students, faculty, and staff for their own salvation and for the building up of the Kingdom of God on earth.

Our Vision:

Spiritual Formation- The Spiritual Life of the Newman Center is the first and most important aspect of its mission. We exist to spread the Gospel Message and to draw people into the Heart of Christ. Everything we do, everything we are, and everything we have should stream forth from the Spiritual Life.

Included in this aspect of our mission are the daily devotions at both the Newman Center and the Newman House. It is through these devotions that we are led to deeper relationship with the Father and with one another.

Intellectual Formation- The Intellectual formation of the Newman Center is a key to growth in knowledge of the Lord and in the Catholic faith. It is through this formation that students learn the beauty of the Catholic Church and, in turn, are able to share it with others.

The Intellectual formation opportunities at the Newman Center revolve around FOCUS Bible Studies and Inquiry classes. However, we also provide opportunities for growth through other programs, such as Knights of Columbus or That Man is You, etc.

Apostolic Formation- The Apostolic life of the Newman Center is grounded in the Liturgy. It is through the Mass that we are most united with God and therefore, with the whole Church.

The Newman Center’s Liturgical life focuses on the Eucharist as the source and summit of our faith. Because of this, we enter into the life of the Church by celebrating Mass daily and honoring the Liturgical Calendar.

Communal Formation- Every parish is a community called forth by God to unite with one another in worship, prayer, and fellowship. As a university parish, there is an even greater need to provide a place for true Christian friendship.

The Communal aspects we focus on are Friday night events and other opportunities for carefree timelessness.

See our Schedules Page for details about all areas of our formation!
