The Chester
Fritz Library is equipped with
a wireless network. Access to
the network is available from
any of the public areas of the
Library. The wireless network
will allow you to connect to the
Internet and use any of the common
Internet applications you would
normally use on a desktop computer.
Authentication is required to access the wireless network. There are two ways to authenticate: one as a guest user and the other is authenticated using your U-mail login and password. (detail information available at ITSS).
Students may bring in their own
laptop computer or borrow one
from the Library through the laptop
computer borrowing program.
Students who
bring in a personal laptop computer
must furnish their own wireless
PC card. If you purchase a wireless
PC card to use in the Library
it should be Wi-Fi (802.11b) compliant.
Students should check with Information
Technology Systems and Services (777-2222)
if they have any questions about
selecting an appropriate wireless
PC card.
Network
connections (landline) are also installed
in the small group study rooms
and faculty study carrels in the
Library. An ethernet PC card and
network cable (patch cord) is
required to connect to the network.
Students may
checkout a wireless PC card for
use in their personal laptop computer
to connect to the Internet from
anywhere in the building. The
wireless cards are available for
check out at the periodicals desk
on the first floor of the library.
The cards must be used in the
Library facility.
Note: Laptop computers leased
by students in the Aerospace
Sciences program have been
pre-configured to use the PC cards.
Aerospace Science students should
contact Aerospace Tech Support
(7-HELP) for assistance with a
wireless PC card. Library staff
are not able to offer technical
support to students who do not
have the necessary software to
use a card.
