- Judge Bruce Van Sickle Papers: The Department of Special Collections is pleased to announce that the processing of this collection is complete. The collection is now available for research and examination. Van Sickle was an United States District Court Judge for North Dakota from 1971-2002. He handed down a critical decision in the
Association of Retarded Citizens case, where the judge ruled that North Dakota 's system for the care of the developmentally disabled violated the constitutional rights of its residents by being overcrowded, under-funded and under-staffed. In Coleman v. Block, the Judge forced the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) to change its loan-repayment and foreclosure policies. The decision effected over 250,000 farmers, and ordered the FmHA to allow delinquent borrowers to defer making loan payments due to financial hardships caused by factors beyond their control. This case was part of the inspiration for the 1984 film “Country.” The inventory can be viewed here:

- Thomas S. Kleppe Papers: The Department is pleased to announce that the inventory to the Thomas S. Kleppe Papers is now available on the World Wide Web. A Republican, Kleppe represented North Dakota in the United States House of Representatives from
1967-1971. After being defeated by the incumbent Quentin Burdick for the U.S. Senate in 1970, Kleppe served as Head of the Small Business Administration from 1971-1975, and Secretary of the Interior from 1975-1977. The inventory can be seen here:

- Elizabeth Grandbois Memorial Collection of Manuscripts (Damian Vraniak Papers): This collection documents the history of Grandbois' great-grandson, Dr. Damian Vraniak, one of the nation's foremost experts in regards to Native American mental health issues.
Vraniak was on the faculty of several universities, including the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Northern Arizona University, Utah State University, and the Oregon Health Sciences University. He is a prodigious scholar, who authored or co-authored over fifty journal articles and book chapters regarding many different subjects in the field of psychology. - Quentin Burdick Papers: The Department also announces that conversion to HTML of the inventory to the Quentin Burdick Papers is complete. Burdick was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic/NPL party in 1958. In 1960, he was elected to the U.S. Senate following the death of William Langer. Burdick continued to serve in the Senate until his death on September 8, 1992. The inventory can be viewed here:
