SCOPE AND CONTENT

The collection contains manuscripts covering the early development and history of the North Dakota National Guard, established in Dakota Territory in 1862 as a voluntary military organization. The NDNG served as the North Dakota First Infantry in the Spanish American War and the Philippine Insurrection, 1898 - 1899 and in the Mexican Border Incident, 1916 - 1917. It served as the 164th Infantry during World War I and World War II. The collection consists of various histories, stories, anecdotes, personnel lists, etc.

The material was photocopied from originals held by D. J. Guerrero of Fargo.
