BIOLOGY 102L PRACTICE QUESTIONS
#11- MOLECULAR BIOLOGY
The following practice test has been prepared for you to get a general idea of what types of questions you might be expected to answer on your final laboratory exam. The questions included here are probably easier and more general than ones you might see on your actual exam. Only a few questions from each lab exercise have been included.
To take this practice test, write the correct answers to each question on some scrap paper. Then, at the end of the test, you will find the answers. If you miss a few and are unsure why, check with your lab instructor BEFORE you take your lab exam.

A genetic transformation was conducted similar to the one you performed in lab (procedure 11.4). Two groups performed the experiment. Observe and explain the following results.

GROUP 1

These results appear to be expected. Bacteria was able to grow on all plates except on the one where no plasmid was introduced into to the bacteria and ampicillin was present in the agar.

GROUP 2

This group's results are not what was expected. The bacteria didn't grow on the agar with ampicillin, even though plasmid was supposedly introduced into the bacteria. For some reason, the plasmid DNA was probably not successfully incorporated in the bacteria.
