U-web Tutorial: Creating a Web Page  Topic 4 of 6
Adding Links Intro * Text * Graphics * Links * Preview * Publish

This page will guide you through:
Step 1: Linking to a secondary page (an additional web page you have created, e.g. your resume)
Step 2: Linking to a web page on a different web server (e.g. UNDInfo the campus information system)

Step 1: Linking to a secondary page

You need to have created a second web page to try this.

Link Dialog Box Select the text you will link to, for example:

My resume.

Click the Link icon Link Tool or choose Insert, Link from the menu bar. The Character Properties (Link) window will open, specify the filename (resume.html) or click Choose File and select it from the directory listing, click OK. Your text will now be a different color and underlined, indicating it is a hotspot.

My resume

You will want to test the link to be sure it works by previewing your page. Instructions on how to do that follow in Topic 5.

Step 2: Linking to other web sites

You will need to know the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of the site you will be linking to. The URL is the web address that starts with http://. For example, the URL for UNDInfo is http://www.und.nodak.edu.

Link Dialog Box To link to it you would first type the text that will become the hotspot (what the person clicks on to jump to the site) and select it.

UNDInfo

Click on the Link icon Link Tool or choose Insert, Link. The Character Properties (Link) window will open. Enter the URL into the Link to page field and click OK.

UNDInfo

You will want to test the link to be sure it works by previewing your page. Instructions on how to do that follow in Topic 5.
