U-web Tutorial: Creating a Web Page  Topic 1 of 6
Intro Intro * Text * Graphics * Links * Preview * Publish

U-web is the student web server to be used for:

  1. Resumes
  2. Portfolios
  3. Instructional Uses (faculty requested)
Once you have activated your U-web account  you will need to create web pages and transfer (publish) them to the U-web server. This tutorial will step you through creating a very simple web page to publishing it using Netscape Page Composer. It includes information for both Windows and Macintosh. Each page will have a banner at the top that lists the lesson title and topic, shows you where you are within the tutorial (e.g. Topic 1 of 6), and allows you to move to an individual topic (e.g. Graphics) . The tutorials consist of general information followed by step-by-step instructions ("Try It!") on basic commands. Once you have gone through a topic click on the "Go to Next Topic" button to continue in a sequential manner.

You may split your screen to be able to view the tutorial and the Page Composer screen at the same time. Select here for instructions on this technique.

Once you have completed the tutorial you should have basic web creation skills such as adding text, adding a graphic, linking to other web pages, and transfering (publishing) your page to the U-web server. A series of sample web pages have been created showing different features, each of which will be addressed in the tutorial. Each page contains the same information but differs in font styles, colors, and layout (alignment & graphic elements used).

Sample1 - Basic information - no special formatting or graphics
Sample2 - Text format for name & graphics added
Sample3 - Background and text formatting
Sample4 - All of the above plus alignment change
