U-mail filters

In addition to the U-mail SPAM filters, you may create your own filters to manage your U-mail messages. For example, you'd like to organize all the messages for your class into a folder. The following instructions will filter all messages from Professor Jiminy Cricket to a separate folder.

Step 1 – Create a folder

Login using Web Access for U-mail (http://und.nodak.edu)

Click on Folders

Click New

Choose New

Enter a name for the new folder and click OK

Step 2 – Create the filter to transfer messages from Professor Cricket to the new "jcricket" folder

Click the Options link

Click "Mail Filters"

Click "New"

Choose Mail Filters then New

Enter the conditions to match for incoming messages:

Match all incoming messages. Select this option to apply the mail filter on all incoming messages

Match any or all of the following conditions. Select this option and specify the filter conditions to match any or all the following conditions:

Sender. Specify the filter criteria for names that can send you emails and enter the Senders name. The filter criteria options available are: contains, does not contain, is, is not, begins with , ends with , matches.

Recipient. Specify the filter criteria for incoming messages from certain recipients so that they are sent into the designated folders. Enter the Recipient names and select a filter option from the drop-down list. The filter options available are: contains, does not contain, is, is not, begins with , ends with , matches.

Subject. Select the filter criteria for the headerline from the drop-down list and enter the subject. The filter criteria available are: contains, does not contain, is, is not, begins with, ends with , matches.

Click Advanced... to specify the advanced mail filter conditions.

Message Size. Select the message size as equals, less than , or greater than from the drop-down list and enter the maximum message size.

  OK. Click to save the advanced mail filter conditions.

For example, to choose messages from Professor Jiminy Cricket whose e-mail address is cricket@jiminy.com:

Enter the action to take once a message matches the conditions

  File message to folder. Select this option and specify the name of the folder in which themessage will be filed.

Keep a copy in Inbox. Select this option to keep a copy of this message in the Inbox.

Forward to email address. Select this option to specify an email address the message is to be forwarded.

  Keep a copy in Inbox. Select this option to keep a copy of this message in the Inbox.

Discard message. Select this option to discard messages that contain a header line known to be a “spam.”

Click Advanced... to specify advanced mail filter actions.

Forward to my mobile address. Specify the mobile address to which the message should be forwarded.

OK. Click to save the advanced mail filter conditions

For example, to transfer messages from the Inbox to the jcricket folder you would check the "File message to folder" option and choose "jcricket" from the drop-down list of folders.

Choose Actions

Click Save

Save the filter

Edit Mail Filters

Select a mail filter from the list displayed in the Mail Filters window and click "Edit".

Make your changes and click "Save."

Delete Mail Filters

To delete an existing mail filter:

1.      Select a mail filter from the list displayed in the Mail Filters window and click Delete.

2.      A pop-up message confirming the delete displays.

Click OK to delete the selected mail filter.
