The University Information Technology Council (UITC) formed in 2001 continues to meet on a monthly basis. The council is chaired by the University's Chief Information Office (CIO), James Shaeffer, and vice-chaired by the Director of Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS), Dorette Kerian.
The Council is charged with maintaining and monitoring a comprehensive, up-to-date information technology strategic plan for the University of North Dakota and advising on all matters having to do with uses of information technology. Much of the work of the Council is accomplished through Sub-Councils that have broader university membership.
In addition to IT planning, issues and projects addressed include campus portal, campus network planning, student IT skills, off-campus Internet access, campus WAN bandwidth management, telecommunications merger with ITSS, Internet video conferencing, wireless networking, computer and network security, and a relationship with the Student Technology Fee committee.
