Four members were added to the Network Services Team with the merger of Telecommunications and ITSS. Larry Fisk, Network Engineer, is in charge of the cabling infrastructure for voice, video and data. He supports the wide-area-networking services for the UND telephone switch. Larry supervises the technicians and coordinates the network cabling projects. Clay Finger, Bob Meuwissen and Marvin Asp, network technicians, provide the cabling services.

The Gigabit Ethernet campus backbone network has been completed, providing increased capacity and redundant paths to all academic and administrative buildings on campus. Equipment continues to be upgraded in campus buildings to provide additional capacity and features for management and security.

Digital subscriber link connections are available to provide high-speed campus network access to UND campus apartments. Residents should contact ResNet Support at 777-3954 for more information.

A pilot project is in progress to assist in setting a direction to support wireless network access on campus. Access points, supporting the IEEE 802.11b standard, were installed at the Memorial Union and the Chester Fritz Library. Laptops with wireless cards will be available for checkout at these locations.
