Initiatives, Projects, and Changes Impacting the Computer Center

by

Dorette Kerian, Computer Center Director

Information Technology continues to be a driver for change and the Computer Center often gets to be first. The following are some of the initiatives, projects, and changes impacting the Center and its services.

One of the initiatives of campus Information Technology plan ( http://www.und.nodak.edu/stratplan/) is to change the way IT is organized. We are working closely with the new Interim CIO, Jim Shaeffer, to help build the new organization.

Jim Shaeffer is also leading the University Information Technology Council, which has broad campus wide membership. It will consider IT for the entire university community in planning for and advising about its use.

A subgroup of the UITC has been meeting through the summer to understand the campus needs for network growth and services over the next several years. Reports and plans will be provided to the UITC Fall semester. They will be available from the Computer Center web page when published.

The Higher Education Computer Network North site responsibilities of the Center have staff working towards an Enterprise Resource Planning system to replace the current student and financial administrative systems all NDUS campuses use. For an update on the ERP and other NDUS CIO issues see: CIO Update

Computer Center staff are working with the HECN South site at NDSU and with the Information Technology Department to be sure the state network meets the needs of NDUS campuses for adequate bandwidth, redundancy, reliability and new services.

I wish everyone a great year!
