The U-mail system was moved to a new server on August 11th in preparation for the influx of new students, faculty, and staff. The new server is a SUN Microsystem which has a faster processor and more storage space than the previous host. The switch was projected to take 24 hours but thanks to the efforts of the UNIX team, was completed in 14 hours. This change also resulted in an update to the Netscape Messenger Express Web access for U-mail. The updated version now includes an addressbook which is good news!
U-Web has a new partner -- it's called U-Drive, and is the means for transferring files to the U-Web server. The file transfer interface was re-written to simplify the transfer screens and to increase it's availability. The previous method used external processes that sometimes stopped working (naughty processes), the new method is a part of the web server so should be much more reliable.
What with these new systems plus the impending removal of Badlands, Plains, and Prairie there was also a lot of documentation to update or create. User Notes were updated and special topic instructions have been developed and are on CCInfo (the Computer Center Web site).
