Computer Labs

Thank you to Student Technology Fee for once again funding new machines and this year new software as well. The Chester Fritz Library (CFL) lab has over 50 new Windows machines. These machines have 19" monitors making things very easy to see.

Two new scanners are in the works and should be in place within a couple of weeks. There will be one available for each platform at the Computer Learning Lab (CLL) located in the lower level of the Memorial Union. The CFL will not have any scanners.

Accessible tables have been ordered for the CLL as well as one for the CFL. These are due to arrive by mid-semester and will hopefully be a welcome addition. Jaws for Windows and Outspoken for Macintosh software programs, have been upgraded at both facilities.

This year's addition of new software is for the Macintosh Lab at the CLL. The next time you use this facility you will find PageMaker 6.5 plus, PhotoShop 5.5, and Illustrator 9.0. The Macintosh used to operate the scanner also has these programs with an additional optical character recognition (OCR) program, OmniPage Pro 8.0. The Windows machine operating the other scanner will have OmniPage Pro 10.0 and PhotoShop too. Thanks for everyone's patience while we get things in order.

As a lot of you may know, and for those of you who don't, we are approaching the CLL's (new location) 1st anniversary. From out perspective, it's been a great first year. Stop by and check it out. If you have any thoughts and want to share them…..we welcome them. Student lab assistants comprise our staff and our hours of operation are posted outside the labs as they change frequently reflecting building/holiday hours.
