Network user authentication for wireless network access was implemented over the holiday break at Chester Fritz Library and Memorial Union. The authentication process requires agreement with the terms of the North Dakota University System Acceptable Use Policy at the login screen. This means you need to agree to the terms of this agreement before you can be authenticated.
Guest level network access allows web, secure web, SSH and VPN without supplying a username and password. Full network access requires logging in with a valid U-mail username and password.
Authenticated network access utilizes a service which requires that computers have the latest Windows patches installed with auto updates running and up-to-date anti-virus software running. If these requirements aren’t met an automatic remedial process redirects your web connection to the appropriate site to update the software. When updated and these conditions exist, the computer will gain full network access.
The next step toward more secure and reliable networking at the Union and Library is to configure the openly available wired network ports to meet the same requirements as the wireless does today. ITSS will continue to expand this service to other areas of campus where wireless networking is available and where open ports exist.
