No-Charge printing for Spring 2002

The Student Technology Fee Committee has made it less expensive for UND students to print at our general purpose computing facilities located at the Memorial Union and Chester Fritz Library.

Students will be able to receive no-charge printouts at the above locations by showing their valid student ID card where printouts are currently distributed. If they are unable to show their ID card, they must use the current system of paying with a print card. Print-cards may still be purchased at each facility for $2.00 per card for 50 pages. This is equivalent to 4¢ per page. Color printouts are not included in the no-charge printing program, but remain 24¢ per page.

The proposed program will begin January 7, the first day of regular classes and will continue through the end of the summer term of 2002. The program that was presented by Student Body President, Matt Brown and Student Senator, Mac Schneider, is a pilot program with hopes to expand into a larger renovation of printout procedures at the university. The future program, if implemented, could expand to other sites on campus, and may eventually include the use of printing management software. This software could monitor the use of printers, allow students to cancel unwanted print jobs, and ultimately minimize waste.

We look forward to continuing to work in conjunction with Student Government and the Student Technology Fee Committee to utilize and implement time and money saving technology.
